Mike Stonebraker on Designing An Architecture For Real-time Event Processing
2016-04-27 @ 11:30 - 12:30 EST
From the organizers:
Much of the focus in “big data” has been on data lakes and data warehouses; in other words on how to store and process large amounts of historical data. We call this use case “data at rest”. Although certainly important, there’s growing interest in a second use case, namely tapping into the value of data in motion. This webinar explores processing streaming data in real time, which we term “fast data”. Listen as Mike Stonebraker explains the tradeoffs of performance, scale, and required programming “heroics” in capturing the value of fast data with different stream processing alternatives. Then hear from John Hugg, Founding Engineer of VoltDB, as he discusses the VoltDB approach to fast data. Learn what’s possible when systems integrate event processing with state management in a consistent, transactional way.
